What is the maximum length for boats?

Maximum length: 22.75 m.

What is the maximum width for boats?

Maximum width: 4.04 m.

What is the maximum depth?

Maximum depth: 1.8 m.

How long does it take to cross the entire Dalsland Canal?

The Dalsland Canal has about 250 km of navigable waterway. Allow 8-10 days to enjoy and walk the entire lake system at a leisurely pace.

I'm going to lock for the first time, is it difficult?

It is simple. The lock attendant is on hand to guide and assist you if needed. Follow the instructions and the locking process will go smoothly.

Can I go by sailboat through the canal?

Yes. Sail-free mast height: 26 m to Håverud, 17 m to Lennartsfors, then 15.5 (14.5) m. Check charts. Maximum draught in locks: 1.80 m.

Can I pay for only one lock station?

Yes, it is possible. It is easy and convenient to buy your ticket online or directly from the lock attendant in connection with locking. Payment is made by Swish or card (not cash). When buying on site, a fee of SEK 50 is added. You can find more about lock tickets here.

Are there queues at the locks

During July there are most boats on the canal, and sometimes there may be some waiting time.
The tour boats between Bengtsfors and Håverud always have priority. See the timetable for Dalsland canal traffic.

I want to travel by tour boat along the canal. Where do I buy a ticket?

The tour boat service is operated by a separate company (not Dalslands Kanal AB). See dalslandskanaltrafik.se.

Is it possible to rent a boat or canoe on site?

Netterlid Marina rents out motorboats with berths. Along the canal there are many rental companies for canoes, canoes, kayaks and SUPs.

What happens if my boat is damaged?

Boat liability insurance is required. Read more under traffic regulations & general conditions.

Can I fish along the Dalsland Canal?

Yes, but a fishing license is also required from land. Info on fishing licenses and fisheries management areas.

Can I lock even though the canal is closed for the season?

Booking season: pre-book Mon-Fri. Fee 450 SEK/lock station + regular lock fee. Email bokning@dalslandskanal.se at least three days before. Booking hours: 09.15-15.00.

Are there boat ramps where you can put your boat in?

Yes, you can. See list and map here.

Where can I fill up with fresh water?

In all marinas and at several lock stations.

Is there electricity in the marinas?

Yes, most of them. See marinas for each facility.
