The Dalsland Canal is more than a waterway. It is a lifeline that connects people, nature and culture. Through collaboration with destination companies, municipalities, authorities, companies and associations, we work to develop a sustainable and vibrant canal that benefits both visitors and residents along its route.

Sustainable nature tourism
We work actively to preserve and develop the Dalsland Canal as a destination, always with nature and cultural heritage in focus. Our vision is to create an attractive itinerary with many quality destinations that both attract guests and strengthen the community of those who live here.
Countering over-tourism and benefiting our environment
One of our biggest challenges is to create balance in popular canoeing areas. Working closely with DANO, landowners, tour operators and canoe rental companies, we are spreading the visitor pressure by developing more routes, strategic campsites and new ways of planning canoe trips. In this way, we protect nature and spread the experience over a wider area. The Dalsland Canal is an important engine for the local tourism industry and one of the region's largest summer employers.
Through initiatives such as lock cafés, cabin rentals, and collaborations on accommodation and dining experiences, we are strengthening the business community along the canal. We want to create more reasons to stay longer and contribute to more opportunities for local entrepreneurs to continue to grow. Together with the destination companies, we also run marketing initiatives to extend the season and develop new products and packages that benefit the whole area.
A cultural heritage to cherish
The Dalsland Canal is both a cultural heritage and a living travel route. Its preservation requires continuous maintenance and commitment from local entrepreneurs, craftsmen and partners. By caring for the canal, we also create confidence in the future and a sense of belonging in the area.
Sustainability starts in everyday life. That's why we choose biodegradable materials in our cafés, environmentally friendly cleaning products in our cabins and clear recycling systems for both guests and staff. We are constantly striving to reduce our carbon footprint and develop our environmental work, step by step, year by year.
