Locking

As a lock keeper or lock attendant, you contribute with good hospitality for our guests, an important part of their experience of the Dalsland Canal and indeed the whole of Dalsland. Locking boats and canoes safely and securely is obviously an important task, as is keeping the lock area well maintained and pleasant.

Who are you?

Working as a lock keeper or lock attendant means, in simple terms, moving boats and canoes between lakes with a difference in level. You meet people from near and far, of different nationalities and destinations, and your job is to make locking a safe and enjoyable experience. As a lock keeper or lock assistant, you contribute to good hospitality for our guests, an important part of their experience of the Dalsland Canal and indeed the whole of Dalsland. Locking boats and canoes safely and securely is obviously an important task, as is keeping the lock area well maintained and pleasant.

About the roles


Lock guard

The main difference between the lock keeper's and the assistant's job is that the lock keeper plans and directs all work at the lock. The lock keeper also takes care of all the administration. At the larger lock stations, the position of lock keeper requires you to have been an assistant for at least one season.

Clerk

As a clerk, you manage the locks together with the lock keeper. But the job is so much more than that; here you meet summer vacationers - all with the common goal of getting past a lock station in their boat or canoe.

What are our requirements?

You should be at least 18 years old (sometimes we can make exceptions), be outgoing and show a clear interest in "doing a good job". You should be able to take responsibility for yourself and for those around you.

When do you work?

You work the period between June 11 - August 16 according to schedule.

Mandatory training day

We start the sailing season for all employees along the canal, with a mandatory training day that includes elements that are a prerequisite for working at Dalslands Kanal AB.

Salary

As per agreement.

From Oslo to Krokfors

Meet Fredrik, one of our new stars for this year. But he's not new to the place, having spent many summers here with his family. And when the locks close for the evening, work continues to help mom with the renovation of the house here in Dalsland. A long-awaited dream.

Normally, Fredrik is in Oslo, but something tells us that his heart beats a few extra beats for Dalsland.
